In CivilGEO software, an AutoCAD Civil 3D drawing can be imported directly into a project as a CAD layer. Support extends to the latest release, AutoCAD Civil 3D 2027, so the user can import and open these drawings without a conversion step.

Since the software reads the native DWG file format directly, a Civil 3D drawing opens without a separate CAD installation. This article explains how to import an AutoCAD Civil 3D drawing and load its terrain surfaces into a CivilGEO project.

What Gets Imported from an AutoCAD Civil 3D Drawing

When the user adds an AutoCAD Civil 3D drawing as a CAD layer, the software imports the design objects of the drawing as real, typed geometry rather than flattened images. The imported objects include:

Alignments
Corridors
Parcels
Profile and section views
Standard drawing linework, such as polylines, blocks, and text

Importing an AutoCAD Civil 3D Drawing
