Troubleshooting the Network License Server

To get a Floating Network License to work within a local area network (LAN) environment, you first need a computer within the network that can be used as a Network License Server. The Network License Server manages the check-out and check-in of floating network licenses on the network. The Network License Server runs as a Windows service on the computer that it is installed on.

Once the installation has successfully finished, the Network License Server will be automatically updated as Running within Microsoft Windows Services. Refer to this article in our knowledge base on how to verify the Network License Server status.

In some cases, even after successful installation, the Floating License Server Status is not updated as Running within Microsoft Windows Services. In this case, as shown below, the status of the License Server is shown as Stopped.

To fix this issue, click the [Start] button to start the Network License Server manually.

If the status is still shown as Stopped, follow the steps below to troubleshoot this issue:

  1. Click on the Windows Start button. Type Task Manager into the search box and press the Enter key.

  2. The Task Manager will be displayed.

  3. In Task Manager, select the Services tab.

  4. In Services, locate CivilGEO License Server 2.0 and check the status of the service.

  5. If the status is shown as Stopped, right-click the CivilGEO License Server 2.0 entry and select Open Services from the displayed context menu.

  6. From the displayed Services dialog box, right-click the CivilGEO License Server 2.0 entry and select Properties from the displayed context menu.

  7. The following dialog box will be displayed.

  8. From the Log On tab, select the Local System account radio button entry and then click on the [Apply] button.

  9. Now, close the dialog box.
  10. Now, switch to Task Manager. Notice that the status is updated to Running.

Additionally, the Floating License Server Status will also be shown as Running on the specified port number. If the status is still not updated, click the [Refresh] button in the Floating License Server Status section.
